  • Gestational Carrier (Surrogacy) –Women with serious health risks of pregnancy or who doesn’t have a normal functioning uterus choose IVF with the help of a gestational carrier. In this method, another woman carries the embryo in her uterus for the gestational period. Here the gestational carrier is commonly called Surrogate while the technique is called surrogacy. Complications of ARTs

Complications of Infertility Treatment or ARTs may include:

  • Multiple Pregnancies –This is the most common complication of Infertility Treatment is -multiple pregnancies — twins, triplets or more. This involves the risk of premature delivery due to the greater number of fetuses which is not common in human being. This also poses a risk of gestational diabetes to mom and babies. The mother and baby both can get risks of health issues that are incurable. So, consult your doctor to prevent multiple pregnancies before the treatment begins.
  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) –Fertility medications work to induce ovulation. This causes OHSS. This makes the ovaries swollen and painful. Some symptoms include – mild abdominal pain, bloating and nausea that lasts about a week. A more severe OHSS rapid weight gain and shortness of breathing requiring emergency treatment.
